What is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata automatically embedded in every photo by your camera or smartphone. It can contain surprisingly detailed information: GPS coordinates showing exactly where the photo was taken, camera make and model, lens specifications, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, date and time, software used for editing, and even the device's serial number.

Why Remove EXIF Metadata?

FAQ

Which file formats contain EXIF data? JPEG and TIFF files commonly contain EXIF data. PNG files typically do not. WebP may contain some metadata.

Does removing EXIF affect image quality? No. Only the metadata is removed โ€” the image pixels remain identical and quality is unchanged.

Do social media sites strip EXIF automatically? Most platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) strip EXIF on upload, but not all. It's safer to remove it yourself before sharing anywhere.

Can I view EXIF data before removing it? Yes. After uploading, the tool displays all detected metadata before you remove it.
